ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, October 28, 2009 -- Clevest Solutions Inc. and Milsoft Utility Solutions have passed MultiSpeak® Version 4 certification, successfully integrating automatic vehicle location data from Clevest’s Mobile Field Force AVL application with Milsoft’s DisSPatch® outage management system (OMS).
Clevest Solutions Inc. and Milsoft Utility Solutions are the first two firms to receive MultiSpeak Version 4 certification. The new version of the MultiSpeak specification will facilitate efforts to harmonize MultiSpeak with standards developed by Technical Committee 57 of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) used today by transmission and wholesale power utilities but not yet fully developed for distribution utilities.
By integrating Milsoft’s OMS solution with the comprehensive automatic vehicle location (AVL) data provided by Clevest’s Mobile Field Force, utilities can efficiently mobilize crews to outage locations and more quickly restore power to their customers.
Clevest’s AVL data provides visibility of workers and assets in the field with real-time updates of vehicle GPS location data, vehicle status, orders, and order status to Milsoft’s DisSPatch Client Map.
The MultiSpeak specification, a project initiated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) for the over 800 electric distribution co-ops, originated almost a decade ago as a set of specifications enabling the integration of automation software. Since 2003, MultiSpeak has provided integration solutions for operations systems, including smart meters, SCADA and GIS.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently acknowledged the role MultiSpeak can play in advancing interoperability, when NIST identified NRECA’s MultiSpeak, a software specification targeted to distribution cooperatives, as one of a set of existing standards that can support smart grid development.
