Letter to the Editor of the Washington Post

The January 18th business section story "Coal Industry Plugs into the Coal Campaign" lists National Rural Electric Cooperative Association among the "roster of backers" of Americans for Balanced Energy Choices (ABEC). NRECA does not support ABEC and has not contributed financially to the group's efforts. The ABEC website erroneously listed NRECA among the group's supporters.

In fact, NRECA represents more than 900 not-for-profit consumer groups whose focus is on keeping the lights on and electric bills within reason -- not on fuel.
