RESTON, VIRGINIA, November 14, 2008 – NRECA received its third CARE (Companies As Responsive Employers) Award at the 16th Annual CARE event, sponsored by Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS).
The CARE Awards program honors Northern Virginia companies offering unique programs to benefit employees, their families and the local community. NVFS evaluates company policies and benefits, evaluating their ease of utilization, as well as company culture and philosophy.
NRECA was a 2007 CARE Award winner and is being recognized again as a 2008 CARE winner, according to NVFS, “not only for the work they do within their community; but also for the creative, inclusive approach they employ to identify and address their employees’ needs.”
NRECA’s human resources department was recognized for its innovative approach to helping employees balance life and work such as providing employees with an opportunity to earn up to three extra days of PTO annually by volunteering their personal time to community organizations. In 2008 NRECA improved their commuter benefits, rolled out a wellness plan, added a Roth 401(k) option and amended their standard 401(k) to a target date program to help employees better plan for retirement.
“We are pleased to recognize these companies for their outstanding dedication to their employees. Through their policies and benefits, these companies allow employees to maintain a balance between office and home life. In turn, the Northern Virginia community becomes a better place to work and live,” said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.
Developed by NVFS and area business leaders, the CARE Awards have been bestowed on local companies excelling workplace change and innovation since 1993.
NRECA is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 private, not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, which provide service to 40 million people in 47 states.
