ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, June 16, 2009 – For the sixth year in a row, IDG’s Computerworld has recognized NRECA’s IT department in Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT. NRECA ranked 68th.
NRECA ranked fourth in “Career Development,” based on formal mentoring programs and employee satisfaction surveys. And among companies with fewer than 2,500 employees, NRECA ranked fifth in the number of training days provided to IT employees, nine days.
The magazine cited training as an important part of the equation. Computerworld highlighted NRECA’s on-site training, special curriculum for new managers, full tuition assistance, fully paid technical certifications, and ability for employees to attend leadership development programs and conferences. The magazine also highlighted how NRECA IT is viewed as a top priority and a strategic investment by the business and executive management.
“During these turbulent economic times, we’re proud to find NRECA’s IT department again on Computerworld’s 2009 100 Best Places to Work in IT list,” said Glenn English, CEO of NRECA. “We work hard to ensure NRECA continues to meet the needs of our members and is also a great place to work.”
“To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business critical. In the months and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth.”
The Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by IDG’s Computerworld, the “Voice of IT Management.” The lists are compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
