NRECA Letter to Sens Lieberman Warner

As the Senate prepares to take up climate change legislation introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and John Warner (R-VA), Glenn English urged caution, citing potential harm to rural economic growth and electric consumers.

In a letter, English offered specific recommendations that electric cooperatives believe “would improve the mechanics of the bill, reduce its cost to consumers across the country, and achieve significant greenhouse gas emission reductions.”

NRECA recommendations include:

  • An economic safety valve to protect consumers and the economy.
  • A timeline for emissions reductions tied to the availability of technology that will make those reductions feasible
