Electric cooperative leaders from Missouri deliver individually signed “Our Energy, Our Future” postcards to Senator McCaskill (D-MO). |
In the same week that Chairman Boxer is introducing climate change legislation, electric cooperative leaders from 28 states came to Capitol Hill to deliver more than 500,000 postcards from consumer members to their Senate delegations.
The cards, signed by co-op consumer members across the nation, urge Senators to work with cooperatives to ensure climate change legislation is fair, affordable and achievable.
“We want to make sure our members’ voices are heard,” said Glenn English, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. "The response has been overwhelming. The hundreds of thousands of cards are tangible evidence that cooperative consumers are paying attention and have real concerns about this legislation."
The postcard campaign is part of Our Energy, Our Future™, a national grassroots effort by rural electric cooperatives to engage consumer-members in a conversation with elected officials about how we meet climate change goals while keeping electricity reliable and affordable. The 500,000 cards delivered this week represent the latest wave in this 18-month-old campaign.
